Prison :Derek Chauvin found guilty for George Floyd death

Derek Chauvin, former Minneapolis police officer, was found guilty for George Floyd death last night. The man was taken to a maximum-security prison and he is currently on suicide watch.

The prison sentence was passed after being found guilty of the three accusations laid on him.

 

This happened on Tuesday, April 20 in the Hennepin County courtroom. It’s almost one year that incident happened and the sentence was finally passed today. The death of George Floyd was cause by the weight of the 45-year-old officer’s knee during an arrest on May 25, 2020.

Judge Peter Cahill thanked the jury on behalf of the state of Minnesota for not only jury service but ‘heavy-duty jury service’.

 

“Chauvin was taken in handcuffs from the courtroom as Judge Peter Cahill immediately revoked his bail pending sentencing. He was transferred to Oak Park Heights, Minnesota’s only maximum-security prison”.

The former Minneapolis police officer is being watched closely by guards at the prison to ensure his safety. To protect him from angry mob in prison as well as suicide risk.

If he serves terms for each charge concurrently, he will face a minimum sentence of 12.5 years and maximum of 40 years. But if he don’t serve well, he will face between 29 and 75 years.

 

US president, Joe Biden told the nation that no one is ‘above the law’, as he demanded new action to honor Floyd after a killing he called a ‘stain on the nation’s soul.’

‘No one in the United State is above the law.
